6 Great Budget Eats in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin

Last updated: May 9, 2022

P’Berg just might be my favorite neighborhood in Berlin (although there are many competitors) and the area I call home. I love the charming streets and airy cafes, mixed with history and a spark of East Berlin edginess. A common complaint I hear about this district is the lack of cheap eats, which are easier to find in neighboring areas of East Berlin.

The good news is there are plenty of inexpensive eateries to discover in Prenzlauer Berg, but I’m going to focus on the ones that can fit into most Berliners’ budgets. Here are some of the best places to eat in Prenzlauer Berg on a budget.

Rüyam Gemüse Kebap 2

Rüyam is my favorite döner in Berlin, and everyone I’ve taken there (locals and visitors) have totally loved it. I like getting the Gemüse Kebap which comes packed with meat, crumbly cheese, your choice of bread, and as many sauces and vegetables as you’d like. The potatoes are a unique touch, and might be my favorite part of the meal. If you order the equally delicious falafel version it doesn’t come with potatoes so be sure to ask for some for €1 more. I sometimes like to order the meatless version of it too (which is even cheaper!) because it doesn’t need meat, the sauces and other flavors do wonders on their own.

Plus, the staff has consistently been very friendly, and there’s complimentary Turkish tea. You can get a döner for around €5.

Rolls - Asian Street Food

Rolls will not disappoint! The rice paper rolls and nori hand rolls are around €3, and the bánh mì ranges from €6 - €6.50 for a generous portion. My favorite version I’ve tried of theirs so far is the tofu saté, which has been consistently fantastic.

1001 Falafel

Very fresh and tasty falafel served with savory hummus and vegetables. Any of the falafel sandwiches are a nice choice, and there’s also shawarma available. Try a falafel box or plate if you want to fork and knife it. I think the plates are probably my favorite, it’s such a diverse spread!

K’Ups Gemüsekebap

There are many cheap dönerkebap places in Berlin, but like Rüyam, K’Ups is especially tasty. You get the option of chicken or falafel in your döner, and they use lots of herbs like mint and parsley which give the food an especially flavorful taste. You just have to try it.

Pane e Vino

I’ll be honest, the food here typically ranges from just alright to pretty good, but the prices (especially when taking into consideration the serving size and atmosphere) are quite affordable. Nearly every full sized pizza, pasta, and salad is around €4, and the ambiance is cozy and cute, especially in the evenings. If you want the atmosphere of a nice sit down restaurant at the price of street food, this is your place.

Prater Biergarten

Prater Biergarten is the oldest beer garden in Berlin, and really fun to visit during the warmer months of the year. The beers are big, and the food is hot and fresh off the grill.

They also have pretzels (although not typically very fresh ones) if you’re not too hungry.
