Where to Find the Korean Egg Drop Sandwich in Berlin

Last updated: August 8, 2023

Titled after their namesake restaurant in Korea, the Korean Egg Drop Sandwich (에그드랍) is quickly growing in popularity in Berlin, and for a good reason! They’re absolutely delicious, and they help fill the breakfast sandwich gap in Berlin’s culinary scene. Fluffy eggs, melted cheese, and slightly spicy and tangy mayo sauce sandwiched between two slices of toasted brioche- I mean what’s not to like?!

Plus, at most of these eateries you can typically add on more delicious ingredients as well! Whatever suits your fancy. Here are the best places in Berlin for trying this decadent and desirable sandwich.

44 Brekkie

The brioche sandwich bar that took Prenzlauer Berg (and the city) by storm is worth the hype. Each sandwich comes together so wonderfully: perfectly toasted bread, expertly scrambled eggs, quality cheddar, and secret sauce. You can enjoy it in their classic style or build an even better sandwich with one of their add-ons. May I recommend their bacon, double cheese, and garlic version?? YUM! They’ve also opened up a second eatery, this time in Friedrichshain. Their sandwiches are truly mouthwatering. A must visit for egg and brioche lovers!

Puffle Bees

The egg drop sandwiches here are very good. When visiting we tried both their Bulgogi beef and scampi sandwiches and they were both very nice. The scampi one was served with a classic sriracha mayo sauce and asparagus, while their beef variation came with cucumber and toasted sesame sauce. You’ve just got to try it for yourself! I also need to revisit soon to try their fried chicken and avocado versions as well! This eatery also sells croffles (croissant waffles) with all kinds of toppings and it made for the perfect dessert after our savoury main. Paired with a lavender latte, I was in heaven!

The Rabbit Café

This café also has not one, but TWO adorable resident Shiba Inus, and quite frankly that’s enough of a reason to visit. If for some reason that’s not enough they also serve a truly incredible egg drop sandwich. It’s definitely a contender for the best sandwich on this list and part of their edge is their fluffy buttered brioche the sandwich is served on. It’s so thick that it’s easier to eat it with a fork and knife. The base price is €6 which I think is a steal considering the quality and size of the egg drop. You can also add on sausage, bacon, or Bulgogi for €1 - €2 extra. Add the beef, you won’t regret it!

Café de Luna

Café de Luna sells a pretty good egg drop! All of their egg drop sandwiches come with avocado and you can additionally add bacon, bulgogi, or oyster to spruce up your sandwich. I have to say their bulgogi variation is quite tasty and expertly seasoned. Definitely visit when you’re also in the mood for cake because their cakes are so delicious. Their matcha crepe one is so creamy (I can’t believe it’s vegan!!) and I had my eye on their unicorn cheesecake as well but their last slice was ordered by the party in front of us. Next time! The egg drops, on the other hand, were in abundance.

The Visit Coffee Roastery

The Visit serves up an excellent egg drop sandwich. They serve it open-faced so you’ll probably want to fork-and-knife this one. Maybe it’s the way it’s presented or the included side salad, but this one feels like it likely offers the heartiest portion. Not much more to say because they only offer one kind with not additional toppings, but they serve up a very satisfying sandwich. This is also an excellent café for working on your laptop.

Mayfair Garden

From the floral platter to the assortment of herbs that are sprinkled on top of the sandwich, Mayfair Garden has to serve one of the prettiest egg drops on this list. Their high quality ingredients and homemade touches make it an especially fantastic egg drop in my book. I’ve tried their variation with spinach and goat cheese, and it made for a rich and flavorful combination. The brunch spot also has a nice eclectic vibe, while still remaining effortlessly polished. Highly recommend!

Breggs

Breggs is one of the newest egg drop spots in town and they’ve quickly grown in popularity! I’ve seen most big Berlin food bloggers post about them so I knew I had to give them a try. While I appreciate the variety of ingredient combinations offered (from burger patties to truffles to roast beef slices), I just wasn’t as big of a fan of their take. I tried the Mr. Breggs which is more of a classic egg drop and the Mrs. Breggs which comes with ingredients like pulled chicken, caramelized onions, and coleslaw. If you’re in the neighborhood and are craving an egg drop they’re still totally worth a try, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for one. They also offer snacks like tater tots which look like they could be tasty.
