The Best Brunch Spots in Kreuzberg, Berlin

Last updated: September 12, 2023

Kreuzberg just might be my favorite neighborhood in Berlin when it comes to food. Kreuzberg is one of the most culturally diverse areas of the city, from inviting roasteries in Bergmannkiez to homely Turkish bakeries steps from Moritzplatz.

Albatross

I feel like I'm always craving something from Albatross. This small bakery has plenty to choose from, and don’t worry if there’s a line, they bake their goods throughout the day. Hungry first time visitors should get something classic (opt for a croissant or sourdough roll), something sweet (you could try their Queen A or flaky crème brûlée), something savoury (maybe a feta tomato danish or ham and cheese croissant), and a mix of sweet and savoury (an apple cheese danish, for example).

The last time I visited I tried their orange fennel loaf and it might be my new favorite pastry there. It’s so hard to decide. Bring a friend to share your tasty treasures with or take your leftovers to go. The only bummer is there is no proper seating here (just a long bench outside the bakery), but you can always take your baked goods home or head over to a nearby green space like Wrangelbrunnen, Urbanhafen, Zickenplatz, or Volkspark Hasenheide.

The options are endless - visit soon!

Café Strauss

Here you can enjoy a peaceful cafe located in a local cemetery. Sound strange? Maybe a little, but the end result is a really wonderful tranquil and reflective space where you're free to start your day with a cup of coffee, toast and spread, or slice of cake.

Founded in 2002, this sweet OG specialty coffee and brunch spot is an excellent place to get your day going. I’ve only tried a Reuben Sandwich and flat white so far, and I was more than satisfied. Their Reuben was expertly paired with crunchy housemade carrot sourdough, Swiss Gruyère cheese, remoulade, pickle, and sauerkraut. Their Bubble and Squeak Benedict also looked absolutely delicious. Plus, they accept reservations!

Barcomi’s

Enjoy all things carbs at Barcomi's: from bagels to breads to cake! Plus, spreads and in house-roasted coffee. Their garlic bagel is a must! I like to enjoy mine with cream cheese and mixed greens. Perfect if you're in the neighborhood and craving bagels or US American-style cheesecake.

Backery & Coffee

Although there are many great Turkish cafés in Berlin where you can get reasonably priced and tasty food, Backery & Coffee is my favorite. It’s not the fanciest café, but it really has a lot of heart, and is such a hidden gem. The staff is so sweet and the homemade Turkish bread is incredible. You’ll find plenty of incredible Turkish pastries here for €1.50 to €4 each. My favorite has to be their potato or meat gözleme. They’re both really hearty and absolutely delicious. My partner, Dan, typically goes for a cheesy item like their cheese and spinach börek. Their lahmacun is on the smaller side, but also very good and just €1.50. Be sure to pair your breakfast with a Turkish tea for €1.50.

Belle Alliance

For tasty brunch along Mehringdamm, look no further than the lively and lovely Belle Alliance. Their Eggs Benny plate is a memorable one, topped with a generous serving of prosciutto and a dollop of homemade hollandaise sauce. Pair it with a glass of fresh housemade orange juice and enjoy your flavorful quality brunch.

Café Nullpunkt

For a full gluten free and vegan brunch, head on over to Café Nullpunkt. Their sandwiches are just sooo good: their tofu watercress on a corn bun and white bean feta hummus creation served on Aera sourdough are both amazing. They’ve got other nice items like lasagna, quiche, and soups as well.

No Milk Today

No Milk Today has to be one of my favorite vegan brunch spots in all of Berlin. My go to order is a Vietnamese espresso with coconut milk and their tofu bagel sandwich which adds up to around €8.50. It’s also on such a lovely street, and their outdoor seating is so pleasant, especially on a warm day.

A.Horn

The bagel sandwiches here are nice! You’re guaranteed a treat with anything you order, but I really enjoy their goat cheese and honey version, and my partner typically orders the pastrami bagel. I think the bagels are on the pricier side (€8.50+ for most bagel sandwiches), but as mentioned, it’s a nice treat. Their outdoor seating is nice in the summer, but I prefer to get my bagel and coffee to go and sit along the Landwehr Canal. There are typically kayaks for rent in that corner too, if you’re looking for a little adventure after breakfast.

The Visit Coffee Roastery

I’m a fan of The Visit for co-working, and I recently finally got around to trying their brunch offerings. I recommend their open-faced egg drop sandwich! It’s an excellent brunch choice and equal parts savoury and satiating. I also like their shakshuka, and I can’t get enough of their poppy seed cake with cream cheese frosting. Their coffee is also very good and roasted in house, and I like ordering an iced flat white in the warmer months. There’s also plenty of seating and people are always passing through so it’s a nice spot if you want to avoid a line for brunch.

Hallesches Haus

Hallesches Haus is worth the visit just for the atmosphere! The interior is both airy and industrial, and the general store is too cute, I especially like the skincare sold there. I typically prefer their pastries to their entrees, but on my last visit I tried an epic house brunch filled with organic and fresh ingredients, and an equally good granola plate, so I think I’m an all around fan now. Their menu is seasonal so there’s always something new to try.

Eigengrau

This local bar transforms their space into a boozy brunch spot on weekends. We were welcomed with a complimentary pineapple mimosa, and there’s a wide assortment of brunch cocktails to choose from. Their chic cellar space is certainly a cool vibe, and their menu features creative takes on classic items like a vegan take on chicken and waffles, and a steak egg benedict.

Annelies

Ugh these pancakes!!! The sister cafe to Distrikt Coffee in Mitte, Annelies is a must visit for anyone looking to have a scrumptious brunch in Berlin. Their pancakes are fluffy and covered with maple-berry syrup, granola, and cultured cream. You experience a bit of a sugar rush afterwards if you’re past the ripe ole age of 25 (partially kidding, but I did get a sugar rush so. . .).

Try: Buttermilk Pancakes
Görlitzer Str. 68 | €€-€€€

La Maison

La Maison is a tranquil little spot along the canal where you can find a shady terrace, stellar French pastries, and a picturesque atmosphere. You’ll find plenty of pastries, soups, salads, quiches, and sandwiches. On the weekends you’ll additionally find goodies like brioche sandwiches and more types of tartes and cake. Get there early on weekends to get your pick of treats and easily find a spot.

Café Mugrabi

Café Mugrabi is a great place to enjoy the sun and have your pick of classic Middle Eastern breakfasts like sabich, shakshuka, and hummus. I had a very hearty and tasty sabich plate the last time I visited and it was paired with pita that was warm and fresh from the oven. It was a super way to start my weekend!

Good Morning Monday

I’ve had a coffee and pastry here here, and really enjoyed both. Although I can’t make a proper recommendation for brunch quite yet, I will say friends and colleagues who have visited have highly recommended the cheese plate, vegan cheese plate, and pancakes. Everything looks downright decadent! They seem to do a wonderful job at plating too which is nice.

Still On My List:

Two Trick Pony

Truthfully I only want to visit because I’ve seen Stil in Berlin post about this brunch spot so frequently and my curiosity is at a notable high! Their food looks quite good, particularly their grilled cheese. One day!

Frühstück 3000

Frühstück 3000 has been on my radar for awhile now and it looks fantastic! I’ve especially been recommended the Fried Chicken on Cheddar Waffle, the photos look absolutely incredible. The prices are higher than most Berlin brunch spots, but from what I hear their quality makes it much more reasonable. Enjoy some fancier unique dishes here like Caviar Eggs Benedict and Truffle Butte Focaccia. They’re a Schöneberg spot, but have recently opened up a new location in Kreuzberg.
